Happy belated birthday to mattwolf and dustbunny105! Sorry I didn't post this sooner!

Post-Halloween Update

Wow, I can't believe it's been a year since I last updated. It's like my LJ is coming back from the dead.

So, how was everyone's Halloween? This was the second year in a row that I did not dress up due to work. I considered dressing as an employee of my former workplace, but I don't think they'd have allowed that. Besides, I threw out my old work shirts as soon as I got the new job, and I never had a hat at my old workplace.

Speaking of work, I'm finally going to become a full-time worker! I talked to my supervisor, and we will start training next week. I've already been working six days a week for over a year, so hours will not be an issue.

Finally, Happy Belated Birthday to everyone whose birthdays I missed!

Oct. 31st, 2016

Happy Halloween, everyone!

For the first time in years, I'm not dressing up for Halloween. This is because my new job makes it impractical to wear a costume. However, I do plan on taking some candy from the service desk bowl (if there's any left) at the end of my shift (9 pm). I might even buy some candy tomorrow since it will be on clearance.

I hope everyone enjoys candy today and tomorrow!

Major Update

I originally wanted to do this weeks ago, at the beginning of the month, but I kept putting it off. Anyway, I've had a couple major changes in my life I'd like to mention.

Good news and bad newsCollapse )

That's all the major news on my front, and I'd like to wish a happy belated birthday to all my LJ friends whose birthdays I missed!
Happy birthday, spiralgirl1!

Have some cake and pie to celebrate!

Dragonball Super

Today I watched the first two episodes of Dragonball Super.

A few people on the forum I frequent complained about Goku's voice, saying Masako Nozawa might be getting too old for the role. As old as she is, though, I didn't really have a problem with her voicework, though I might be more used to it than other forum members.

The first episode was cute. Goten and Trunks went out to get a wedding present for Videl. The two boys having a conversation about the women in their lives made me think of the Bechdel test. Though I don't bother applying this test to television and comics because whether they pass or fail can vary by episode/issue/chapter, I thought it was nice to see an inversion of something many feminists have lamented. I also liked how the book Videl bought Gohan was titled "Muzukashii Hon" or "Difficult Book".

The second episode involved Vegeta accompanying Trunks and Bulma to a resort/amusement park. This is a follow-up to the promise Vegeta made to Trunks when they were training in the Buu saga. It was a pretty funny episode, even when the plot switched to Whis trying to get dinosaur meat for Beerus (the aliens on that planet were pretty cute).

I actually haven't watched much anime in the past few months. I hope to keep up with Super and get back into One Piece (I am so far behind in that).
Today is the birthday of my favorite One Piece character, Nami!

Two updates

First of all, happy birthday to wrestlingdog and cygna_hime!

Secondly, today is Gohan Day, so here is a list of Gohan fansites and here is the Gohan tag on pixiv.
In the Japanese Dragonball/Dragonball Z fandom, May 7 is Goku/Chichi (Gochichi) Day.

Apr. 11th, 2015

Passover ended tonight. My family and I ordered pizza to celebrate.

For the last few Passovers, I've been taking salads for lunch when I go to work, because matzah can get crumbly and messy. This year, however, I kept finding myself hungry and yet unable to finish my salads within my half hour lunch break (though it's more like 25 minutes when you take out the time spent in the bathroom). I also found myself hungry at home on days off until the evening, when I would have dinner and then pig out on potato chips.

This Passover has made me realize that I really need to diversify my diet. Bread, cereal, pasta, meat, and cheese make up a large part of my diet in spite of the increase in fruits and vegetables over the years. I'd like to do some more cooking on top of the occasional stir-fry (which I can now go back to adding sugar snap peas to). Hopefully the prices of some vegetables will go down soon, what with it being spring. I also can't wait for domestic stone fruit to come in.
It has now been two years since we adopted our dog Bandit. My sister bought him Snausages as a gift.

Also, happy birthday, tinamachina!
Since yesterday, it's been exactly thirteen years since my bat mitzvah, or my b'nai mitzvah, since I'm a triplet.

Our parashah was Beshallach, which covers the parting of the Red Sea, the Song of the Sea, and the battle with the Amalekites. I originally wanted the portion with the parting of the Red Sea, but I got the Song of the Sea instead. I quickly grew to like the portion, though, because it has a different melody than most of the Torah. My sister got the parting of the Red Sea, and my brother got the battle with the Amalekites.

I can't quite remember the last time I went to a bar or mitzvah, but I think it's been at least five years. I know it's been about eight or nine years since my youngest maternal cousin's bat mitzvah; that was probably the last one I attended. My youngest paternal cousin had her bat mitzvah almost five years ago, but I was in Italy at the time.

This reminds me that I should go to synagogue more often. I need to start looking at congregations.
